Beach Trip!
Our children had a very special August long weekend with a beach trip on Sunday the 10th, following up our Mother’s Day celebrations on Friday! A group of our resident children piled into the van with staff and volunteers, already dressed in their swimming gear – in one case even including swimming cap and goggles – all ready for an exciting road trip! When we arrived at the beach in Pattaya (a nearby beachside city a bit over 100km away from the Home), the kids raced straight down to the sand, and within 10 minutes most of us were in the water. The rest of our quite large group found enough beach chairs for all of us and set up for what was going to be a long, tiring but exceptionally enjoyable day.
The kids’ time in the water was only interrupted for lunch – and what a lunch we had! Fresh prawns and squid, spicy octopus and papaya salads, chicken skewers and sticky rice brought from Home… the list goes on. We really did make this day out one to remember. A brave few even followed up lunch with a turn on the banana boat! A banana boat is an inflatable yellow banana shaped ‘boat’ pulled behind a motor-boat. Needless to say that little adventure was full of screams (of joy and terror) and more than a couple of falls into the water. We spent the last few hours of the day in the ocean, playing on tubes, jumping off the floating barriers and just playing like kids will play when they have a day at the beach. It was such an enjoyable day for all involved, and everyone was absolutely exhausted by the time we left. I have never heard the kids be as silent as they were in that van-ride home.
สุดสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมาของเดือนสิงหาคม เด็กๆของเรามีวันหยุดยาวที่เยี่ยมยอดมาก เราจัดงานวันแม่กันในวันศุกร์ ตามมาด้วยการไปเที่ยวทะเลในวันอาทิตย์ที่ 10 เด็กกลุ่มหนึ่งที่พักอยู่กับเรากรูกันขึ้นรถตู้พร้อมทีมงานและอาสาสมัคร หลายคนอยู่ในชุดว่ายน้ำ คนหนึ่งถึงขนาดสวมหมวกและแว่นตาว่ายน้ำ ทุกคนพร้อมแล้วสำหรับทริปเดินทางที่น่าตื่นเต้น เมื่อเราไปถึงชายหาดพัทยา (เมืองตากอากาศชายทะเลห่างจากบ้านพักของเรา 100 กิโลเมตรเศษ) เด็กๆไม่รีรอรีบวิ่งตรงไปยังหาดทราย ภายในเวลาเพียงสิบนาที พวกเราส่วนใหญ่ก็ลงไปลอยคอในน้ำกันแล้ว ส่วนคนที่เหลือในกลุ่มของเราซึ่งจัดว่าใหญ่เอาการทีเดียวต่างพากันจับจองเก้าอี้ชายหาดสำหรับพวกเราทุกคน และจัดที่ทางสำหรับวันอันยาวนาน เหน็ดเหนื่อย ทว่าสนุกสนานอย่างไม่น่าเชื่อ เวลาเล่นน้ำของเด็กๆ มีเพียงช่วงอาหารกลางวันมาคั่น และอาหารมื้อนั้นก็เยี่ยมยอดมาก มีทั้งอาหารทะเลอย่างกุ้งและปลาหมึก ส้มตำ ไก่ย่าง และข้าวเหนียวที่เรานำมาจากบ้าน… รายการอาหารยังมีอีกมาย พวกเราทำให้กิจกรรมทัศนาจรในครั้งนี้กลายเป็นวันที่น่าจดจำ หลังอิ่มหนำกับอาหารกลางวัน เด็กๆใจกล้าบางคนยังผลัดกันเล่นบานาน่าโบต! (บานาน่าโบตเป็นเรือยางเป่าลมสีเหลืองรูปร่างคล้ายกล้วยหอมยึดโยงกับเรือติดเครื่องยนต์ที่วิ่งนำหน้า) ไม่ต้องบอกเลยว่า “การผจญภัย” น้อยๆนี้เต็มไปด้วยเสียงกรีดร้อง (ทั้งสนุกสุดเหวี่ยงและกลัวสุดขีด) เด็กๆ หลายคนร่วงตกน้ำป๋อมแป๋ม พวกเราใช้เวลาที่เหลือไม่กี่ชั่วโมงของวันนั้นเล่นน้ำกันอย่างสนุกสนาน บ้างเล่นห่วงยาง บ้างกระโดดจากทุ่นลอยในทะเล หรือไม่ก็เล่นสนุกกันตามประสาเด็กๆ เวลาไปชายหาด ช่างเป็นวันที่แสนสนุกสำหรับทุกคน พอถึงเวลากลับบ้าน ทุกคนคงหมดเรี่ยวหมดแรงไปตามๆกัน เพราะเราไม่เคยเห็นเด็กๆ เงียบแบบนั้นเลยระหว่างนั่งรถตู้กลับบ้านในเย็นวันนั้น
