Father Giovanni Contarin

Father Contarin
Father Giovanni Contarin is an Italian Priest of the St. Camilllus Foundation, a Catholic-based order dedicated to caring for the needy. Born on 19 November 1956 and raised in Pio X Treviso Italy, he was ordained as a Catholic Priest at St Lorenzo parish of Poggiana di Riese Pio X Italy in 1983. Father Giovanni has done extensive work for the poor in Thailand over the past 30 years.

When he first arrived in Thailand in 1985, he started the first HIV/AIDS hospice in Bangkok. At that time, there was a strong resistance from the local community who were not properly educated about the virus. After much violence and danger to his own life, Father Giovanni moved his project to another province in Thailand where he started the Camillian Social Center Rayong in 1994, taking care of both children and adults who are living with HIV/AIDS.

In 2008 he established the Camillian Home, which is focused on helping orphaned and poor children living with disabilities and serious illnesses. Father Giovanni is still involved in the Home, while also continuing to work for the Camillian Hospital in Bangkok.
